JOSEP ENRIC BALAGUER

Gratallops, Priorat 1962

Known artistically as Balaguer, this realism painter from El Priorat currently lives and works in Sabadell. His pictorial vocation emmerged at an early age.

Initially, he studied Delineation in search of a seemingly more stable job. In 1984, however, he decided to enroll in the academy illustration Eina-3 directed by Ricard Calvo, and later on in Escuela Illa Sabadell.

Simultaneously, he colaborated in the cultural magazine Notebook as an illustrator and in 1986 participated in “Art realista actual” (Today’s Realism Art) in a group exhibition called “Art realista actual al Vallès” (Today’s Realism Art of El Vallès).

With firm and meticulous brushwork, this artist from Gratallops, generally recreates everyday objects on the canvas. So often ignored, he is able to reveal the inherent beauty of these elements. The great painter from Madrid, Antonio Lopez, once said that he could feel and caress the different forms Balaguer paints.
